Aims: Professional ethics is one of the general competencies in the higher education system, and observance of its standards can be effective in the quality of the process and output of the system. This study was performed, aimed to investigate the status of professional ethics of the faculty members from the nursing students’ point of view.
Methods: In this descriptive survey study, 104 persons were selected of 382 undergraduate and graduated nursing students, using stratified random sampling method, being commensurate with the size of each educational section. Data were collected, using professional ethics standard questionnaire with 4 items, including ‘professional capabilities’, ‘respect for and commitment to students’, ‘respect for and commitment to colleagues’ and ‘respect for and commitment to organization’. Data were analyzed, using One-sample T and Independent T tests.
Results: From the students’ point of view, total mean of professional ethics was 2.40±0.16. The maximum gap between current and desired state of professional ethics was in the total professional ethics, and the smallest gap was in the components of respect and commitment to the organization.
Conclusion: Nursing students are not satisfied with the components of the professional ethics in the university and among the faculty members.
