Introduction: Migraine is a multifactorial disorder that, in addition to its physiological components, involves various psychological dimensions that can significantly influence the quality of life and well-being of affected individuals. Accordingly, the present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) on alexithymia and illness perception in patients with migraine headache.
Method: This research employed a quasi-experimental design with a control group. The statistical population included all patients with migraine headache who referred to specialty clinics in Qods city during the spring of 2025. Using purposive non-random sampling, 30 individuals were selected and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. Data were collected using the Toronto Alexithymia Scale (1994) and the Illness Perception Questionnaire by Broadbent et al. (2006). The experimental group received an 11-session cognitive-behavioral therapy program (60 minutes per session), while the control group received no intervention.
Results: Findings indicated that cognitive-behavioral therapy significantly improved alexithymia and illness perception among patients with migraine (P < 0.05).
Conclusion: Short-term cognitive-behavioral therapy can be effectively utilized by mental health professionals to improve psychological well-being and overall quality of life in individuals suffering from migraine. |
