Evaluation the Impact of Simulation-Based Teaching Methods on the Quality of Clinical Education in Medical Students: A Review Study

Introduction: Advances in medical education have led to an increased use of simulation-based teaching methods for practicing clinical courses. Medical students require experience and psychomotor skills to enter clinical practice. It seems that providing simulated conditions similar to clinical settings is the best way for training and repeated practice in complex decision-making scenarios. This study aimed to examine the impact of simulation-based teaching methods on the quality of clinical education in medical students.
Methods: This review study encompasses research conducted on simulation-based educational methods from 2019 to 2023. Related Iranian articles were collected using keywords such as clinical education, quality, medical students, and simulation by searching databases like PubMed, Google Scholar, as well as domestic databases like Iranmedex and Magiran.
Results: A total of 128 articles were obtained, out of which 11 were included in the study for final review. The studies consisted of 2 descriptive articles, 1 qualitative article, 7 quasi-experimental articles, and 1 clinical trial. Based on the results of the present study, simulation in clinical education creates a safe learning environment, improves clinical skills, increases satisfaction and autonomy, and boosts confidence in students.
Conclusion: Simulation-based medical education offers an educational approach, and further research is needed to identify how simulation-based medical education can enhance the motivation of medical students. The integration of conventional education with simulation-based training may be effective in learning among students.
