A Qualitative Exploration of Organizational Intimacy Components in Educational Settings: A Study Among Secondary School Teachers in Lorestan Province

Introduction: This study aimed to explore the components of organizational intimacy in educational settings and develop a conceptual model based on the experiences of secondary school teachers in Lorestan Province, Iran. Given the critical role of human relationships in school effectiveness, the research sought to identify key factors fostering intimacy between teachers and administrators.
Methods: A qualitative grounded theory approach was adopted. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 24 teachers and school administrators in Lorestan, selected via purposeful sampling until theoretical saturation was achieved. Data analysis followed a three-stage coding process: open coding (extracting 24 concepts), axial coding (categorizing into 6 themes), and selective coding (developing the final model).
Findings: Six core themes emerged: 1.Human relationships and mutual trust (trust, honesty, respect for differences) 2.Constructive participation and interactions (open dialogues, collaborative workshops) 3.Emotional support and empathy (active listening, attention to personal issues) 4.Transparency and organizational justice (fair evaluations, managerial accountability) 5.Psychologically safe environment (freedom of expression, acceptance of criticism) 6.Informal culture (spontaneous interactions, humor).
Results: The final model revealed that organizational intimacy in Lorestan’s schools is shaped by human interactions, fairness, and managerial support. Additionally, the province’s cultural and ethnic diversity played a contextual role in forming intimate relationships.
Innovation: This study contributes to the literature by: Being the first qualitative exploration of organizational intimacy in Lorestan’s unique cultural context. Proposing a localized conceptual model to help policymakers improve organizational relationships in schools. |
