Introduction: Due to the fact that academic engagement has a significant effect on the type and level of academic performance of students, it is necessary to investigate the variables affecting the amount of academic engagement. Therefore, the current research was conducted with the aim of explaining the causal relationship between motivation for progress and academic self-concept with the level of academic engagement and the mediating role of students' perfectionism. Methods:The present study is descriptive of correlation type. The statistical population of the present study was all the students of the first year of secondary school in Semnan city in the academic year 1400-1401. Students were selected by random cluster sampling method. In order to measure the variables of the research, Hermans' progress motivation questionnaires (1977), Dr. Delaware's academic self-concept (2013), Rio's academic conflict (2013), identity perfectionism and Felt (1991) were used. The data of this research was analyzed using correlation test and path analysis with Smos24, SPSS23 software. Results:According to the values of the indicators obtained, the motivation has a positive and significant direct (β=0.47) and indirect (β=0.53) effect on academic engagement (p<0.01), and academic self-concept has a direct (β=0.44) and indirect effect (β=0.44). direct (β=0.58) was positive and significant on academic involvement (p<0.05). In addition, perfectionism positively predicts students' academic engagement (p<0.05, r = 0.14). Conclusion: according to the obtained results, it indicates that increasing and strengthening the level of self-concept and positive coma, as well as creating the motivation for progress in students can increase the academic engagement of students, and there is a positive relationship between the motivation for progress and academic engagement, also the results indicate the relationship There was a positive relationship between academic self-concept and academic engagement.
