Employability and general competence of students in basic sciences: The relationship between higher education and the labor market

Introduction: The aim of this study is to present a model of employability based on the general competence of basic sciences students.
Methods: In this study, we used a mixed method. The participants in the qualitative part were faculty members and managers of employment centers for basic sciences students, and in the quantitative part were final year students and university graduates. We conducted in-depth interviews with experts in the qualitative part until they achieved theoretical saturation.
In the analysis stage, we used the line-by-line coding method in Maxquda software. From its results, a researcher-made questionnaire was developed and used as a tool for the quantitative part. The results were analyzed using SPSS software.
Results: In the qualitative part of the research, we identified 7 dimensions, 23 components, and 85 indicators and in the quantitative part, we performed validation.
Conclusion: The resulting model provides a framework for the employability of basic science students based on their general competence. |
