Surveying the Relationship between Psychological Capital and Academic Resiliency with Internet Addiction of Students

Introduction: Psychological capital and academic resiliency as important positive psychological constructs can have a role in explaining addictive behaviors. The aim of present research was surveying the relationship between psychological capital and academic resiliency with internet addiction of students.
Methods: The research method is descriptive-correlational. In this study 200 Students of Shahre-Kord Payame Noor University in the academic years of 2014-2015 were selected by random clustering sampling method and responded to Internet addiction, academic resiliency and psychological capital questionnaires. The gathered data were analyzed by Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise regression analysis.
Results: results showed that there exist a negative and significant relations between psychological capital (self-Efficacy, resiliency, optimism, hope) and academic resiliency with internet addiction (P < 0.01). The results of regression analysis showed that psychological academic and academic resiliency could predict 27 percent of variance of internet addiction in students (P < 0.01).
Conclusions: The results highlight the importance of psychological capital and academic resiliency as positive psychology constructs in explaining Internet addiction of students and have important implications as regards the necessary steps to prevent Internet addiction in students.
