Introduction: Implementation of task-based learning approach is very important and effective in surgical technologists. Because of the lack of enough hospital operating rooms, they cannot be experienced at the same time as passing the surgical technology courses. Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental study which samples were 57 surgical technology students of the 6th semester who selected based on include criteria of the study and divided into two intervention and control groups. Then they trained by two methods of teaching (routine method versus task-based learning method). Before and after training, their basic knowledge and practical skills were evaluated and compared using multi choice question and observational checklist. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 22 software. The results: This study showed that after teaching by task-based learning method, there was a significant difference between the mean scores of the knowledge and the practical skills in the intervention group students in comparison to the control group. The results also indicated that the intervention group in practice test were significantly faster than that of the control group. This issue is very valuable in the field of surgery, and the consequence is notable. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, task-based learning (TBL) is an effective method for surgical technologists in the clinical education. Therefore, the use of this method is recommended for all instructional directors in surgical technology course.
