Introduction:Because the most important function of education is to create learning, and in this regard, various positive and negative factors are effective in the learning and academic progress of learners. Therefore, the main purpose of the research was to investigate the relationship between the Sense of Rejection and understanding of the educational environment with the academic progress of students with the mediating role of mental health in the distance education system. Methods:This research has been done in a descriptive and survey way. The statistical population of the research consisted of 1100 students of Payame Noor University, Khalkhal Center, in the second semester of 2018-2019 academic year, and 258 people were selected as a sample using stratified random sampling (according to gender and and academic discipline) and with the help of Karjesi and Morgan tables. To collect the primary research data, library studies and field method based on standardized questionnaires of Goodenow's Sense of Rejection, Erickson and Noonan's mental health, and understanding of Renshaw's educational environment were used. In addition, the students’GPA of the last semester was used as a measure of academic achievement. Finally, correlation coefficient was used to explain the relationships between variables and structural equations based on LISREL 8.5 software were used for modeling. Results:The initial findings of the research showed that the correlation coefficient between the Sense of rejection and understanding of the educational environment with academic achievement with the mediating role of mental health at the alpha level of 0.01 has a relationship of -0.256-0.189 and-0.156 respectively. It was calculated as negative, but there was a positive relationship between understanding of the educational environment and academic achievement with the mediating role of mental health, 0.142 and 0.343, respectively. The final finding of the research based on structural analysis also showed that mental health and understanding of the educational environment were able to positively explain the academic progress of students (p< 0.001, β= 0.27 and β= 0.54). Conclusion: The final results of the research showed that a positive understanding of the educational environment and the mental health of students in distance learning environments lead to academic progress, but the Sense of Rejection hinders the academic progress of students.
