Introduction: Besides fulfilling societal healthcare demands, the quality of medical education can affect universities' global rankings. This study aimed to identify the challenges and potential solutions for improving the quality of medical education in Iran's universities of medical sciences to enhance their standing internationally. Methods: The study was conducted in Iran's medical sciences universities in 2022 using an exploratory approach. In total, 35 managers, assistants, academic professionals, and specialist experts working across several vice departments were interviewed on a targeted basis. The interviews were conducted until the data reached a state of saturation. Following transcription, the Graneheim and Lundman conventional content analysis method was used to analyze the data. Results:A total of 43 issues were classified into five principal categories: inadequate funding, improper planning, weakness in interactions, deficiencies in education and research, and human resource inadequacies. Additionally, 71 solutions were identified and grouped into seven main categories. These categories included financial support, evaluation, infrastructure investment, research development, promotion of collaboration within and between sectors, enhancement of education, and recruitment and retention of skilled human resources. Conclusion:Based on the study's findings, managers and policymakers are recommended to remove current barriers and challenges by establishing new educational facilities and technologies, drawing in highly qualified teachers, monitoring professors' performance, fostering more international interactions, and providing adequate funding.
