Introduction: The present study aimed to compare the effectiveness of emotion management strategies training on schema therapy and emotional couple therapy on marital satisfaction of young couples with marital conflict.
Method: This quasi-experimental study was conducted on couples with marital conflict referring to Rasht counseling centers during the months of May, June and July 2022. 30 couples were selected by convenience sampling and randomly assigned to three groups: EFT, ST, and control. The two experimental groups each received 10 90-minute treatment sessions with one session held weekly for a total duration of 10 weeks, While the control group did not receive any therapeutic intervention, Furthermore, a follow-up phase was incorporated into the design. The ENRICH paired scale was used to collect data, And data analysis was performed using multivariate analysis of covariance tests in SPSS-24 software.
Results: The results showed that both EFT and ST interventions had a positive and significant effect on increasing couples' marital satisfaction in the post-test stages (P<0.01). Also, the results of the follow-up test showed that the effectiveness of EFT intervention in increasing couples' marital satisfaction was greater than ST (P<0.01). However, the results of the follow-up test in the next stage showed that the difference was statistically significant (P ≥ 0.05). Therefore, it can be concluded that the effectiveness of EFT and ST on couples' marital satisfaction is different even in the follow-up stage and EFT had a greater effect on couples' marital satisfaction than ST.
Conclusion: Both approaches are effective in increasing marital satisfaction in couples, but EFT is more effective than ST.
